Gillette Venus #SunscribeToSmooth Event with Kriti Sanon,Namrata Soni and Dr. Rashmi (delhi)

Last week I was introduced to Gillette Venus razor at a #Subscribetosmooth event held exclusively for bloggers and other people from the media industry at Delhi at Vivanta by Taj , Ambassador . The idea was to have an interactive one on one discussions with a Panel which included Kriti Sanon along with renowned aesthetic physician Dr. Rashmi Shetty and make-up artist Namrata Soni so that we could use some tips in our lives too.

It was a very personalized experience as the ladies shared their expertise on the best techniques of shaving which could give a very fulfilling and satisfying shaving experience.

There were a few facts I wasn't aware of. For eg 57% women in Europe shave an 61% shave their legs. Wow. 

Shaving is one of the most common way to get rid of hair in a painless experience. And yes women should shave too.Shaving isn't any rocket science , but there are a few steps which needs to be followed to deliver a smooth experience said Dr. Rashmi.

The whole idea of this interactive was to bust a lot of myths we women have in regards to shaving,the growth of hair, etc. 
It started with a QandA with the panel. It was interesting to hear the panel's shaving stories and how they have adapted to shaving as a hassle free way of hair removal especially with the hectic schedules a celebrity is supposed to live in. The same could also apply in our case too. There were a lot of doubts which popped up, and were answered by our Pro Panel of the evening.
These were the myths that were busted:

• Shaving causes coarse hair growth - The rough hair growth is a cause that could be related to our hormones. Waxing removes the hair from the root, hence it takes a while for the hair to grow back , while shaving removes it from the surface. The density of hair is unaffected.Of course the hair becomes pokey and makes you look like a ravaged warrior when it starts to grow and that's because its very tiny. Tiny hair always prick. Even when we wax.
• Shaving causes In-growth - False. Waxing causes in -growth.It is due to the broken end of the hair .In fact shaving stretches the skin. As mentioned above since the hair is removed from the surface it grows back from there.Once the root is removed, and the hair grows back up again, it messes up and grows inside the hair follicle and beneath the skin and causes this problem.
• Shaving causes skin darkening. Never- The friction causes skin darkening. The razor which we use for shaving should be flexible. Its the non-flexible razors that could be a cause of friction resulting in skin darkening.

Some Do's. and Don'ts discussed at the event to always keep in mind for a smooth shave.

• Do-Always wet the surface before shaving. Shaving on a dry skin can lead to cuts .
• Don't-Never use a razor that is stubborn, it does not give a very smooth experience.
• Do stretch and shave - The underarm skin and behind your knees is supple and flexible to allow movement at these jointed areas, which can make it harder to shave as the skin moves with the razor. To keep these areas as taut as possible for a cleaner shave, stretch your arm up and reach your hand behind your shoulder, and pull your leg straight .
•  Don’t soak in the bath for too long before shaving - The skin will over-hydrate and swell slightly as it begins to absorb water. This will compromise the smoothness of the shave. The optimum time for a pre-shave soak is approximately one to two minutes.
•  Don’t apply too much pressure on your razor - A precision made female razor like Gillette Venus is designed to glide with minimum effort over the skin’s surface. Forcing the razor can end up leaving you with nicks.
•   Don’t worry about direction – Modern razors are so effective that you can shave in any direction that feels comfortable to you. However the hairs on our underarm area grow in random directions so for a truly clean shaven feeling you need to work in a variety of directions also.
•   Do leave fiddly bits until last - Ankles, back of knees and thighs are best dealt with as you get into the flow of a shave and are most in control of the razor
•   Do store your razor correctly - Store your razor in an upright position and somewhere dry. Do not leave it on the bath side in pools of water as this is a breeding ground for bacteria.
•  Don’t rub your razor to try to clean it with brushes or towels simple rinsing should do the job - You could blunt the blade and damage the coatings - these blades are incredibly fine and you need that coating.

Shaving with Gillette Venus- 
Gillette Venus is designed with three movable blades to give single stroke shaving.

We do not need to dispose the razor each time we shave. The razor has a blue strip with aloe vera and would gradually fade after every use. Once it fades completely we need to change the cartridge and  the razor is as good as new. 

The brand claims that it gives a very smooth painless shave after every use. 
Also whether the above myths seriously holds water, or not , all that and much more would be revealed soon on the blog.
